hey guys , after talking about it for several years , i started turkey hunting this year , so far i have had one hen come in to the calling , but had gobbling all around me . so my question is have far can u hear gobbling ? i know it could have many facters that would come into play but in i am asking in general . i am hunting 220 acre farm i deer hunt on with three open fields that are around 5 to to 10 acre in size. one more thing if i can hear them does that mean they can most likely hear my calling as well ? they sound far off to me ..thanks

Poser hit it pretty good. I have the darnedest time judging distance to gobbling turkeys. If your in woods already greened up you can be sure if you hear gobbling you should be within 300 yards. Other times I've had them on fields at 75 yards and they just don't sound that loud to me. I think it has to do with sound reflection.

I have a 900 acre lease and on a clear morning i can hear approx 1/3 of it at one spot. I have had em come from 1000 yards to others that are within 100 yards and wont budge. Just depends on the situation.

That's what keeps us coming back for more! If I had a bird sit on the end of my barrel every morning I went out,my turkey season would be pretty short, and to be honest, pretty boring. Most avid turkey hunters are looking for a good story/adventure,not just a kill (although that is a bonus) :D.
