I suppose the plus in having the camera was telling why I missed. I have a suspicion that trying to film and get the shot at the same time might cause me to miss more, but I have also missed in the past with no camera. I know for sure I have missed at least 2 or 3 times on a moving bird while I wasn't even filming. This appears to be a rushed shot and you can see the pattern hit the woods above and behind his head. I can only partially blame the gun - the new sight had it patterning just a hair high, but today I adjusted it to shoot lower. I'm probably going to hit the woods between jobs tomorrow and I'm not sure if I will want to bring the camera or not. I do know that if I get a turkey in range, it will either die, or walk away without a shot fired.

Watch this and tell me what you think... I will delete the video after a little while, it hurts me to watch. I would like some opinions on the shot... my take is that I completely rushed it, shot a moving bird and paused for the shot causing me to hit behind him. The sight might be to blame for hitting high, but that could have been my fault as well. Next time I aim for the neck not the head. Oh and the follow up shot I didn't show, was off screen anyway. I shot through too much brush which I didn't think of until i walked through all the bushes to look for him.

Obviously I can't see your own angle but from the camera angle it just doesn't look like a good shot angle or target. Moving bird in half crouch is a tough shot. Again I can't see your angle and depth is lacking on video but overall just doesn't look like a high percentage shot.

All that comes with experience though. If you can't get a slam dunk shot just wait or pass for another day.

I am not a shooting expert....but i noticed in the slow motion replay that leaves/limbs up close in the picture were moving....and I had always believed that would impact the tightness of the group.

I think the gun barrel was actually touching those leaves

REN you're right it was a poor shot choice, thought I had his head up but he ducked and kept walking.

^^ This.... and don't shoot at a moving bird, a tight pattern and a moving head are a marginal shot combo....
for me, a moving anything is bad. I suck at wing shooting and have missed or injured deer and turkeys because they were moving.

Say his name, "Tom", in a firm voice. He will stop and crane his neck trying to determine what the heck he just heard. Boom!

I know I made the wrong sound. Bet I would have killed him if I had shouted something at him

I get as excited as anyone, so I can see rushing the shots, but I have been extremely lucky, or good, lets go lucky, and never missed like that. Yelling at them does indeed stop them a for a shot.

As Ren said looks like his head was tucked down when you shot. I can't tell where you hit but definitely wait until they stop. The one I killed last weekend was walking but I had the circle from the scope on his noggin and still thought I missed at first because as soon as I squeezed the trigger I saw a tree come into view. Thankfully he went down on the spot.

My guess is you simply rushed because he was about to walk out of your camera frame.
yeah that's kind of my guess too, actually he was about to walk behind some bushes and not just the camera frame. I have shot turkeys that walked off camera frame but I was about to lose my shot on this one completely...I only had a couple seconds to shoot, so I shot anyway instead if making sure he put his head up.... That has got me more than once in the past

Looks like much of your shot was hit by the bushes in front of you. Also at the time of the shot it appears that the turkeys head is behind a tree possibly blocking the pellets that kill. But i realize that what you see and the camera sees could be different. Pattern your gun. Get them to stop, keep your head down, and follow through!

the bush in front of the camera was hit by the recoil or the pressure wave...the barrel was actually sticking out past that and I had to move the barrel around it before I took the shot as for the sapling, I don't know, it's a possibility.
