Not sure if they are the same two people or not, but according to the hunter success table, over the past two years there has been one person kill 7 birds and another kill 8 in the spring. That's getting it done.

I also noticed that it has 2 people listed as limiting out on jakes. I could have done that one tough year, and thought very seriously about it :D !

I would guess you could kill the statewide bag limit of 4, plus however many draw hunts you were drawn for. Called being lucky and good right there, along with a bunch of time and money to spend!

Limiting out on jakes is embarrassing even for a kid. I don't care if someone wants to shoot a jake but shooting 4 is absurd and whoever that is ought to be embarrassed

What are we deer hunters? :D What's the difference if he kills them in 2014 or 2015 on his property? Its still 4 dead turkeys.

Not to put words in his mouth but I think what Setterman is meaning not to hard to kill jakes.

Another thing to consider is the data is input by a human and mistakes do happen, thus the data could be accurate, or not.

Sure it's 4 dead turkeys but come on, 4 jakes in a year? As I said blow up a jake or two if it makes you happy but killing 4 is excessive IMO. Why not kill 2 and wait for long beards instead?

I am neither pro or anti jake shooting. But That is 4 gobblers which have likely never bred a hen. Also 4 two year olds that didn't give fun good gobbling hunts. Some jakes act like big birds and gobble and strut and play, but lots of jakes just act on their own, and do their own thing.

Disclaimer: Not trying to stir the pot or hate on jake shooters. I have killed a few jakes in my hunting career.

While I agree with your logic and would never blast 4 jakes, If it makes someone happy to blast 4 jakes let them! It could be a youth hunter thats slaughtering the jakes or any new hunter and there is nothing wrong with that. When I was a kid I would have gladly killed 4 jakes. Or it could be a poser that's been pushed to hard by the elite. He probably got tired of people calling him a poser and decided to do something about it :D

I never saw a jake that I could kill this season. I missed a longbeard and killed a longbeard but never could close the deal on a jake. Is there a trick to them so I can easily harvest one?

In my opinion jakes are sometimes harder to kill because they usually are not gobbling, strutting, breeding, and looking for hens.

If a guy were to go out trying to kill a Jake and pass on longbeards, I think he would have a tough season.

This is the first season that I have not saw a jake normally I see several of them. Not to hard to call or bushwhack if that's what makes a man happy. Last year almost every day I hunted I called in a group while trying to work a tom.

:D Figures the jake limiters would get the most attention.

I'm still more interested in legally taking 7 and 8 gobblers each spring.

As many as a person can draw. I took 4 adults statewide, one reelfoot nwr bonus, one LBL bonus. My buddy works at Milan arsenal, he said those are bonus birds, and they can take four. I guess if Id drawn Chickasaw nwr, and lower hatchie, That would have been 2 more.

I guess I know the guy who killed the 8. He got his 4 state birds then hunted Arsenal land for 4 bonus birds . Plus he got 2 Merriams this last week.
Tickweed knows him too.
