I don't have a vest yet and wondered how many are going into the woods without a vest?

If not what do you use.

The vest market is overwhelming and I am not particularly interested in paying the money for one.

I REALLY don't want to buy a discount one that is not useful ie: seen a review earlier that said: pockets are loose, dropeed two calls, I could loose more than I saved at that rate.
All opinions and setup info are appriciated

I never use a vest but occasionally a backpack. Actually I use a packpack a lot for deer hunting but rarely for turkey hunting. Shells and calls go in cargo pockets and around my neck. Don't really need a vest with the stuff I use to hunt

I am all about being lightweight as possible and if I hunt last few weeks of TN season, I typically hunt without a vest. I currently hunt early season with a antiquated modified lightweight Tarantula vest (discontinued) that meets my needs, but I do carry minimum calls and other stuff afield. If you are hell-bent on hunting without a vest, the bag below may be an option for you. While it reminds me of man bag you would typically see in Paris, it may very well be worthwhile in the field. Good luck in your quest to find a suitable option.

come to think of it I only carry 2 or 3 calls in pockets/around my neck, camera around my neck, gun in right hand, tripod in other hand. Snacks in pocket sometimes. I don't use dekes or a dozen calls, so a bag, pack, vest, etc aren't necessary for the way I hunt.

Can't stand a vest.

I have always used a belt with four pouches.

Everything is on my waist.

Ol Tom pants and shirt eliminates my need for a vest. I don't carry much most of the time. The man that started me years ago carried only a mouth call and a shotgun, I revert back to that most every year by mid season

I bought one of these last year for days when I don't want to wear a vest. This will be the first season that I use it. I would not pay full price for it - it's definitely not worth it. I got mine for about half price during the end-of-season clearance sale last year.

Beard Buster Run and Gun Turkey Belt
I used to use just the pack portion on this, called The Ultimate Call Keeper, and thought it was a quality product. Since I already had a seat, it was much cheaper. I have since gone back to a vest. I sometimes spend the entire day in the woods and prefer something that I can keep organized and will hold a large water bladder.

I'm so jealous of the non vest crowd, I would love to not need one and have looked for a solution but come up empty every time. I have to have some way to pack birds out since many times I am miles away from the truck.

If I could find a decent solution I would dump the vest in a heartbeat

It all depends on how far you are from the truck. If you hunt a place with good access or a small track, I would definitely go vestless. Cooler, lighter, and there is no need for 15 turkey calls. But if you hunt the mountains or wma, I promise you that you don't want to hand carry a 23 lb bird for 2 miles. Pack a vest with necessities and a roll of plastic garbage bags to put the bird in so your pants and vest are not soaked with blood.
