actually hunt turkey with a 20ga?

Seen a few people commenting on REN's 20ga post.... I never really much thought about it... but thanks to REN, it's rolling around in my mind. Been thinking about getting my oldest niece into turkey hunting.... might be the excuse I need to get started on a 20ga....

Worst case, I have a 870 12ga HD that I could handload some 2-3/4 "baby" turkey loads with.... #9 TSS.

I killed 2 of the 4 last year with my 11-87 20 gauge. Pure Gold choke and Hevi 7's. It will kill to 40 easily. Much lighter to carry around these rough places.

I built a Charles Daley 20ga for my daughter. Nitro 3" loads with a Kicks .560 is DEADLY out to 50 yards. I carry it when I take buddies that dont have a gun, letting them shoot my 935 for the day.

I am going to try it this year. I found a Mossberg 500C in a pawn shop for $150. Pretty little gun and very light.

My Benelli M2 is completely set up and ready to roll. It patterns great and would kill any bird I needed it to. However, I've never carried it, and should because its lightweight

I carried a M1 20ga part of the time last year. Kilt one longbeard with it. Plan on carrying it most of the time this year. It's light and carries like a BB gun Patterns good too

I use a 20 gauge in the fall. Killed 2 last year and 2 this year with it. The only 12 gauge I own any more is a single shot H&R.

I noticed Hornady is coming out with a 1 3/8 ounce 20 gauge lead load.

If I wanted a dedicated 20 gauge turkey gun it would be this....

Mossberg SA20

I called in 3 longbeards last year during the first season and my gun went click when they were at 18 yards???? Found out my firing pin was dorked up, so I took the kids 20 gauge out, much lighter to carry, and does it even kick? I have a nice tight choke on it and dropped a bird at 40 yards last year. Have to get that 12 guage fixed....but mostly so I can use it to deer hunt on Ft Campbell in the fall.

TRS,
Have used a Charles Daley "Ducks Unlimited" 12 ga auto for 10 years now. Ducks for 5 and the last 5 as my "turkey toaster", tight choke and hot loads gets the job done all day long. Good luck to the little lady this season.

I bought that same gun for my son from my Brother in law for $100. The extractor plunger came out of it and he lost the extractor. I have been looking for one for a year. Finally paid a Gunsmith $100 last week to make one. Hopefully parts for that gun will come back around.

My father-in-law uses a mossberg 500 in 20 gauge.
At 40 yards his gun shoots ALOT better pattern than my Browning Silver.
