Guys me and my dad have been chasing this bird for atleast 3 years, and everytime he comes out he always has his hens, ive tried everything, wont come to a call or decoy. He will strut and gobble but wont leave her.Any ideas to get him away?

The best way is to wait until later in the season, and hunt him later in the day when his hens are nesting.

Or, early you can try to call his hens. If one of them answers one of your calls or is just calling in general, cut her off with the same kind of call she is making. When she calls again, do it again. Each time, do it a little louder and a little longer. Hopefully, this will tick her off and she will want to come to the hen (you) and whip her tail!

Sounds like a season wrecker to me. Good luck!

She must be a good woman! ;)

Some are just that way. I
I might suggest that you sleep in and go out about 10 am or so, maybe 11. By then, she should be on the nest and he could possibly (likely) be out roaming around looking for one of his 'concubines'. :) That's a good time to bust up an affair.. ;)

Good luck.

yeah he comes out around 2pm.we call alot at the hens too like you said, but he is always not with them when i need him to be there, and when i dont need the hens they are.And Thanks. You too!

A technique I used last year for getting my biggest gobbler was crawling to them. If u got enough brush or hills in the area its actually easier for me to go to them then try to get them to come to me. If your in good enough shape, it can be most effective on those old toms that are henned up.

yeah @knothead,when he breeds the first hens in the AM,he is far away but he comes through the field and always has atleast one more still there..:(

East, thats a good idea,we have lots of high brush, then it goes real smooth and green.so not too much cover

I feel your pain. Ive had 3 toms do me the same way last 2 years. They stay with there hens from daylight to dark. They fly up on my side of property line into tree. They fly down across property line and stay there all day. Im pulln my hair out over them. Luckly I have at least 5 more toms to target. Good luck to you getn him.

Yea my farm is all hills and valleys, so I finally figured out the general area where they gangin up in the early morning up on top of a ridge. Me and a buddy crawled probably 200 yards too them and they never saw us coming!

thanks, and if you want him enough, get next to the tree they roost in and you can shoot turkeys from 30 min. before sunrise and 30 min.after sunset.

These are the two we got last year using the crawling technique :D

Have you tried gobbling? Hens go to gobbling, if hens break toward you, your in business. But nothing is full proof. I hate decideing on hunting a hard bird or going after different turkeys. You cant spend a season chasing one or go kill others. As Will Primos said once , one of them 243 birds. Put corn in field and dust him with a 243. lol He was refering to certain birds that will drive you nuts. I dont think he would actually do that.
