I've spent four hours total in the turkey woods. I know almost nothing about calling and want to get better. Is there any way to practice? What do you recomend?
Yes indeed, forgot about those.PalsPal":vvp2h492 said:Youtube videos of real hens are also a great resource, and there are a lot available.
x2, this may be the easiest way to learn, just watch as many videos of turkeys as you can. Once you get that turkey sound in your head it's easy to imitate a hen yelping, clucking and cutting. Here's a video I took last spring of a hen I called in. You can hear my wingbone call and then the real hen yelping and cutting back at me. I'm not sure what her intentions were, but I think the loud clucks and yelps could mean she was dominant and was trying to tell off the other "hen". That's just my guess though.PalsPal":3nfrgqw5 said:Youtube videos of real hens are also a great resource, and there are a lot available. The main thing is to try to get the cadence down.

As tempting as it may become over the next couple of weeks, resist the urge to strike up a conversation with the very birds you'll be hunting come April. If you booger a tom because he associates hen talk with a human (whether you know it or not) he can become that much more difficult to call to the gun.
Best of luck to you.
