I do neither. Tie the loop and use pliers to get it tight. Make it shorter than you want because when you pull on it with the pliers in will lengthen it out. You can also wax the loop material before you tie it on. Its susposed to make it pull tighter.

Give something more uniform for the arrow to sit against...learned this from a bunch of 3d shooters and I think it makes even more sense for hunting
 
Holy Cow !!! That's the thickest bowstring I've ever seen - just how big are your arrows and bow ???? :grin: :grin:
