Install a string loop? Do you serve it in place or do you
use a nock?

I do neither. Tie the loop and use pliers to get it tight. Make it shorter than you want because when you pull on it with the pliers in will lengthen it out. You can also wax the loop material before you tie it on. Its susposed to make it pull tighter.

Give something more uniform for the arrow to sit against...learned this from a bunch of 3d shooters and I think it makes even more sense for hunting

I heat up a little wax and place it at the knot end to keep from any movement at all.

Ditto. You can also spin the loop around the string to raise or lower it.
