i have a mossberg 535 with a factory xxfull choke. Can i shoot magblends out of the factory choke, or do the HTL loads have to be shot out of rhino's,indian creek, gt's, etc?

Like southern sportsman said, the htl loads can be shot thru factory chokes. Many turkey hunters aren't satisfied with the performance they get from factory chokes and experiment with the aftermarket specialized choke tubes. I have seen the federal heavyweights, with the flight stopper wad, pattern well with factory full chokes.

Yep. You didnt ask, but if someone does ask I counsel against magnlends. Very inconsistent pellets and performance. They often look good on paper, but many of those pellets are 8s, 9s, or smaller. Federal Shells use a very good pellet and often do better with factory chokes.

thanks guys. just wanted to make sure. new primary gun is sbe II shooting nitros, wicked combo. i shot federals 3" 5's for many years out of an undertaker choke, choke was $20.00 @ wally world. Killed alot of birds

maybe so but magblends smack the crap out of an old gobbler like white on rice!!!! very good killing shell they never know what hits em out to about 50 yards, none of this shooting them then having to give them the chokehold of death like I used to have to do with lead

I don't get why so many are worried about what's in the magblends it's a proven shell going 1200fps and HAMMERS turkeys. What do you think is in the 1000fps heavy 7s or 6s?

I shot one at 45 with the magblends once and it stood up before I got too it. It tried to run but fell over and by then I was to him. I stood on his head while he flopped for ten minutes until he suffocated I suppose. Once he was dead I examined him. His head was bloody and had pellet holes, but he had just stood up and looked at me, which I found odd. When I got home I skinned his head out and found about a dozen magblend pellets, 9 shot or smaller, stuck between the skin and skull. They were big enough to knock him loopy, but not enough to break his skull. I cut open a couple shells I had left and verified that there were tons of tiny pellets, and I swore them off.

Thats why I worry about whats in my shells. If ONE of the bigger pellets hits in the head, then the turkey drops and the shooter hails the shell as awesome. But you better hope that one of the big ones finds the mark because past 40, those little ones aint getting it done. But people continue to shoot the magblends rather than straight 6s because they make more holes in paper when patterning.

Again if you think the heavy 7s or heavy 6s have only those in it or for that matter lead 5s or lead 6s then I have some other stuff to sell you.

Some lots are better then others and that goes for any shell. Those shells are fast and hit like a brick 99% of the time.

I agree that the straight hevi 6 or 7 loads are not perfectly consistent either. Neither are the $8 Nitro loads. Or anything using the 12 g/cc HTL shot. But none as bad as the magblends. The Federal 15 g/cc shot is pretty good and nickel or copper plated lead loads are pretty consistent.

I know that magblends will kill turkeys. Cheap lead shells will kill turkeys. If you're ok with shooting a load half filled with 10 shot, thats fine. I was just giving my opinion/experience with the mag blends.

Half filled with 10 shot? Hahah ok man

The 40+ birds I've shot with magblends (3" mind you) HATED them.

I respect your opinion though, I don't really agree with it but that's what opinions are for.

Half was an over exaggeration, but a considerable amount no doubt. I've killed turkeys stone dead with them, and most turkeys are shot inside 40, where they will flat mash them. But when you get past that, a lot of the pellets are too small. Cut one open and see for yourself.

I know lots of people love them, and that, as my graddad always said, is why they make chocolate and vanilla. I just wanted to give an alternate perspective based on personal experience.

sorry crazyeye didn't notice your question. it's a .670 nitro. before i bought gun, choke, etc. i talked to the owner of nitro and rhino. told them what i wanted and they helped me pick out shells/choke combo. those guys know their stuff. i get average of 270 pellets in 10" square at 40yds with h517c's.

My gun shoots magblends and 6's almost identical in pellet count. I decided on the 6's because I feel they are more consistent even if a little slower. I wouldn't hesitate to hunt with either one though.
