Hunter shot in MI

A turkey hunter was shot in the arm by a crossbow while hunting on private property in MI.
Trespasser and poacher will be charged.

I worry about getting shot by someone that hasnt hunted alot and may not be safe with a gun but I always try to find a tree that protects from someone shooting me from behind!

I worry a lot more about a drunk or druggie hitting me with a car than I do about getting shot..

I sadly concur, just a matter of time. There's already plenty of president where poachers drive up and start shooting at decoys, hitting the camouflaged hunters in the background.

Keep in mind this kinda of crap (involving centerfire rifles) often happens at longer ranges, and often without the clarity of optics, although there seems to be no shortage of idiots "mistaking" hunters for turkeys even at closer ranges. I cannot imagine anyone turkey hunting with a crossbow mistaking a man for a turkey. Would presume the shooter had already lost his rights to carry a firearm, thus was afield with a crossbow?

Week two I actually had to get up and run a gobbler off because the googan behind me was coming quicker than the turkey was. When he got within 100yds, I got up and ran the gobbler off, who was less than 75 yards and closing. This was the second time this idiot had come in on me and this particular gobbler. Been hunting turkeys on public land my whole life and this was the first time I ran a gobbler off on purpose. Still waiting on one of these fanning commanders to catch a rifle round to the face. Only a matter time.

Just curious, without knowing your exact situation why was the other hunter a "googan". When I hear a bird gobble I go it.
