Any of you guys have any luck hunting after work in the evenings during the last 2-3 hours? Going to try and go a few evenings this week after I get off around 4pm. I'm hoping to finally put one down for the count!

I have killed a couple birds like that, but the only way I know to hunt at that time is to "deer hunt" them.

In other words, pick a spot you think they might travel through and try to intercept them.

It isn't as fun, but I have done it. I have killed 3 turkeys in the late afternoon like this. One was in the fall when I was bowhunting for deer, during the early archery turkey season. The other two were in the spring when after work was the only hunting option I had.

I have taken a couple in the evenings that gobbled all the way to the gun.

One was a bird that I had worked a few different mornings. I had worked him that morning, but he busted me. So, I headed back that afternoon, but I only had an hour window that I could hunt as I had to get back for one of my kid's ball games that I was coaching.

He was gobbling where I left him that morning. He stayed in one spot until about 10 minutes before I had to leave, when I turned the heat up on him and started cutting/cackling at him. That tore him up, and he came in gobbling his head off.

And, I made it back in time for the game :) !

Sucks because I have work at 5pm every day except monday and tuesday. I could go out later today, but I would rather get to bed early and go out tomorrow morning because classes are cancelled at school tomorrow.

On days I have to work...i'd rather hunt in the evenings than in the mornings when I don't have as much time before i have to be in. Have killed several past 5 o'clock...either in food plots or in a strut zone relatively close to roost. The food plot birds aren't as vocal for me but the strut zone birds normally hammer all the way in.

It's best if you pattern them and know the general area they are using before they fly up. I have had them respond and come to the call in the afternoon. Starting about now as they are breaking up their big groups...the big boys are liable to be alone and looking for love in the afternoon or to gather a harem to fly up with.

had a buddy pop one @5:50p on public land today

I was within 65 yds of 2 opening day right before they flew up and roosted
