I lost my hunting spots this past weekend and really don't have any new prospects to speak of. Chickasaw state park is within a 20 minute drive from my house and it looks as if it may be my only option if I want to hunt. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with the park and could help point me in a general direction. Strangely, no one I know has any experience hunting the park and really can't help me out.
Thanks for any help and God Bless, Steve

Re: Hunting Chickasaw NWR

Chickasaw State Park (north of Bolivar) and Chickasaw NWR (on the bank of MS River) are two different areas. Easy45 on here works at the Park over near Bolivar/Jackson, he may be able to shed some light on the area if that is indeed the area you are thinking of. The refuge (NWR) is draw only and the applicants have been drawn for this season.

Thanks and sorry for the confusion. I don't know what I was thinking. I haven't lived here but for a couple of years and am still trying to figure things out.

If I'm not mistaken, there is no hunting allowed on Chickasaw State Park. You can hunt on Chickasaw State Forest.

Re: Hunting Chickasaw NWR

Never hunted it, but I have hunted a few miles Northeast and a few miles Southwest of it and both places were loaded with turkeys, so I am sure there are quite a few on it. But I am sure it's like any other public hunting, lots of hunters after smart birds.

The hunting here has been tough the last couple of years but there are birds here, I will tell you this, do not come on opening day and don't hunt on lajoie rd, this place is packed on opening weekend and lajoie rd probably gets the most pressure on the forest even though I have never checked a hunter with a turkey there
