I am having trouble getting on some field birds. I believe they are roosting in several different spots around a very, very large field. It consists of a series of fields and thin wood lines for several miles. I have been getting in the field in the dark and listening and hooting several times. There are literally birds gobbling in every direction, but when I try to get closer they just disappear. There isn't much cover to try and get up close to them so I don't know if they are seeing me before fly down or what. Anyways,..any tips on this situation?

You are probably getting picked off crossing the fields headed to the birds in the mornings. By the time they gobble, there's enough daylight for them to spot you.

What you've got to do is just gamble on where they are roosted and go there with decoys set up in the field in total darkness, then they'll pitch right in off the roost if you're within 75 yards or so. If you don't want to gamble, you'll need to watch them from a distance and put them on the roost the night before.

b-mobile, killer B they work wonders at times

Go in during the middle of the day and find their roost trees. If you hunt them enough in the morning, you should be able to pattern them and find the trees they roost in. You definately need to be there early so they don't see you coming. Try to atleast walk the woodline if you have to.
