I bet mr. long beard will have his hen yet again but I will stick it out. Probably will be a tough decision between sitting a long time and waiting for him to walk by in range, or running and gunning aggressively trying to sneak around in front of their guestimated path of travel.

Or I may be lucky and catch him alone...

Either way I hope I get a good chance.

I will even shoot another jake if I get the chance, it's getting to the point where I am torn between wanting a longbeard and just wanting some more meat for the freezer.

Oh and can I say the season has gone by WAY too fast. I can still vividly remember opening morning walking out in the field at 4am with one other hunter ahead of me as we parted ways and I set up near the roosting birds that I had found while scouting.

There isn't enough meat on a turkey to make it worth while, so shooting a jake is just shooting a jake. However, do what makes you happy, if you want to smash a jake then by all means smash one.

well I'm leaving the spot now.... Saw a grand total of 4 birds, all of which were hens and 3 of them were feeding early in the morning. Spent about 3.5 hours at the field edge, then walked around the place seeing only one hen which flushed (no nest visible).

I heard no gobbling at all, that's a first for this season. At least I saw some squirrels so I have Saturday to look forward to for some squirrel shooting.
