Saturday morning was a bust tried my luck on public land along with the thousand other people. lol Saturday eve though my girlfriend wanted to go so we went and set up on a ridge on our property were i had been finding some scratching, i didnt really expect much as i havent even heard a gobble, but i went through a few series of yelps and it wasnt long before i had 3 gobbling like crazy. With her in tow i knew i couldnt do much in the line of moving so we set tight and a cloud started moving in and they shut up, set for another hour and nothing. No biggie i know where they will be sunday morning. Well the next morning i set up about the same spot early in case one had come in on the ridge after we left, 6:15, 6:30, 7:00 rolled around and no gobbles. I called a little and started easing off in the holler and as soon as i got to the bottom one cut loose about a hundred yards from where i was sitting, I made my way back to the top of the ridge, and he gobbled 5 times total, shut up and aint heard him since. we finally seen a hen, but today i got out tried some running and gunning from 7:45 to 11:00 and only seen one hen. I cant figure these dudes out. They were like this last year they just absolutely dont like to gobble, and if you can get them to gobble long enough to figure out where they are you have a real good chance of killing one, but thats the problem, I hunted my farm monday through friday last year every week and only heard 2 gobble and i killed both of them. sorry for the long post im just a little flustered lol

Sounds like turkey hunting to me

Stick with it and it will pay off eventually. Just enjoy getting out there and trying because if you let it get to you and frustration sets in you'll find yourself enjoying the experience less and less. ;)

BTW, I didn't do worth crap this weekend myself. Heard one gobbling and never could coax him in. This came AFTER I misjudged my distance and bumped him off roost. :D

Keep your head up, quiet now means major killing coming in a few weeks. The birds it seems statewide are beyond henned up as usual. They should break free some in the next few weeks.

One issue is the number of jakes indicates a ton of young hens, which will prolong the breeding this year, so that may make it late April before they are ready to die.
