I bet he was giving me the finger as he went the other direction.

I had a bird on a string at 9:30 Sunday morning yelling his brains out at every sound I made. After 15 mins I knew I had a problem and had to make a move. He was strutting back and forth in a trail, and wouldn't cut through the thick brush to get to me. I hadn't planned on a bird coming from that direction when I sat down.
I let him head down the hill again and bolted for the clearing, all was perfect and he even gobbled to let me know he was still down there and anxious to meet me. I picked the first tree that was bigger than my wrist to sit against and as I got to it, I had gone a couple steps too far and saw him strutting...facing my direction. I never heard or saw him again. Stupid stupid stupid.

That's what makes it so fun/challenging/frustrating/exciting all rolled into one.

I had one Friday evening blow my hat off with the first gobble I had heard all afternoon. He was in my lap. I knew better than try to take a peek around the tree to my left. He was at 20 yards, but not for long.

I passed the running away shot and really gave myself a good talking to :D !

Thankfully, the turkey gods gave me a gimme Saturday morning, so it evened out.

Same happened to me Saturday morning I'm pretty sure. I didn't see him but he wouldn't budge so I circled and then broke my own rule of being patient. I started moving again and all of a sudden silence. He beat me but I'll be back.
