For quite a while now my preferred knife has been an inexpensive folder with a camo handle. I've had a few close calls where I laid it on the ground in the woods and almost did not find it. Because of the camo you see! I varied my routine of putting it away after field dressing a deer yesterday, was at the four-wheeler, couldn't find my knife, went back to where I'd last used it 15 yards away! No deal, never did find that knife.
Another thing I finally did was made meat with a 45-70. Glad I finally did. Been carrying that heavy rifle since back in November anything I saw was beyond 45-70 range.

Few years back I killed a deer. Got the truck and proceeded to gut it. Got the deer loaded and headed home. About 12 miles the road I thought where is my knife. Pondered for a moment and thought it's still on the bumper. Pulled over and it's gone. Kinda mad at myself, I had laid it there blade open to clean up after I loaded the deer. Fast forward to the next year and I'm on my fourwheeler going down the road thru the farm. A shiny glimpse catches my eye. I back up and finally see it. It's my knife, laying in the cut out road, blade still open. Not sure how I didn't get a blade in the tire lol. I figured it blew off on the highway.

That's the reason that I bought a cheap morakniv in orange… it's bright and hard to lose, but if I do I'm only out $12. Good knives, too.

I take out my Buck to use on occasion, but it was a Christmas gift one year from my wife and kids, is beautiful cocobolo wood, and I'd feel terrible if I lost it. It DOES blend in, especially if the blade falls below the leaves

Well, right now I have one that has been misplaced, it was with my old timer, but somehow it was not there when I went to retrieve them. I found that knife, so not a monetary loss, but it had become my go-to field dressing knife. I have a few more to use until I find it.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I had to switch to orange camo also. Could try a metal detector, mine has baled me out more than once

Lost a single blade case I used for years in the yard quartering a deer . Grandson found it a couple years later , wasn't stainless so it was bad rusty but I managed to get it usable and still very sharpe with a few strokes only to lose it again .

Congratulations on your meat.

Yep, lost a few knives over the years. Somewhere in Wyoming, lost a nice Cabela's branded caping knife.

Never lost one, but it's taken me a half hour or so to find one after laying it down during field dressing/butchering.

I finally went to a Buck Alpha with an orange handle.

I have a morakniv fixed blade and love it. Unfortunately the handle is army green but if I ever lose it I'll buy another with orange handle. I did lose a gerber gut hook one time and no idea how, when, or where.

Sorry about your knife. I've done it too. I use one of the orange handled Outdoor Edge folders now. Surgical sharp blades that you can change out. LOVE IT.

Congrats on the 45-70 harvest.

My wife bought me a buck 110 with gut hook. Ever since she's bought me
That my boy and I have had some great luck. Killed a deer a couple years after having it. Laid it down and forgot about it until a couple days later. Went back and found it with a metal detector. It also road the bumper once for several miles. Now when is finish gutting I make sure to put it away.

Funny story. I was hunting out of one of my lock ons. Just after day break I could see a credit card laying in the trail. I got furious because someone had been on my property and dropped it. So I climbed down. Only to realize it was mine. I had forgotten and got gas that morning and stuck it in my pocket and not back in the truck. Lol.
