I can't, for the life of me, understand why an offensive player is allowed to run, full speed then stick his arm out and hit a defensive player right in the face, snapping his head backwards. :bash:

This is just as, if not MORE, dangerous than a facemask, hands to the face, or horsecollar tackle.

Just drives me NUTS !!!

Oh well, that is all.

It's part of football tradition! ;)

Vermin so is playing hard and hitting hard.
They can't do that anymore so why stiffarm?

I love to see a good stiff arm too. This guy has a few more to give out!

I hate forward progress more than anything. It's okay for a offense to push the runner forward but, they stop the defense from pushing the runner backward.

Hunt just about everything

I agree with that Deerbuster !
If the runner is shoved backwards it don't count, if he bounces off, reverses, runs around and makes a gain, that's fine.
No sense at all.

While the stiff arm has been around since the beginning of time, most to today's rules are in place for two reasons:

1) Give the edge to the offensive players. Most "fans" today want to see scoring, and an old fashioned 7-6 defensive battle is "boring"!

2) (Cover your butt) I mean player safety. They are so afraid of future lawsuits that they have swung the pendulum to an extreme.
