This little guy (nice little 3 point) ran in and munched on acorns for 20 mins, right in front of me this morning. He was all around my tree. Fun to just watch. They are some wary animals! I would hate to have to live my life constantly watching my back! He looked right up at me right when I took the pic, and went on eating his breakfast. Never was concerned about me at all. He gradually walked back to the thicket from whence he came.

Made my day, even if I didn't get to shoot one. This is what its all about to me.

Looks like you are really high in that tree! I always want to hunt higher but never can get up the nerve to take my climber over maybe 15 feet.

I was 26 feet up in this pic. I prefer 18-20 feet, and usually stick to that in early bow season. However, as leaves disappear and your cover vanishes, I find it beneficial to go higher. This time of the year, I usually go 25 to 30 feet high.

There are some tradeoffs to going higher though . One is the increased downward shot angle . When you get higher up aiming at a deer 15-20 yards away , the vital area gets smaller and it gets tougher to get a double lung shot unless you allow them to get out to 25-30 yards .
Just food for thought when setting up a stand. :) I hope the buck sticks around next year and you get a shot at him .
