someone will find nests full of eggs by opening day, if not poults already running around :D !

Wouldn't surprise me. The redbuds are already setting blooms around my house.
Had a hen hatch out three chicks last year at the beginning of September. Two survived. I know it happens sometimes but the first time I've seen it.

If you keep a hunting journal, go back and refresh your memory on 2012. It was 93* opening day and had been warm for a month. I've never call at more willing turkeys. Bring on the warm weather.

Sarcasm aside, and not wanting to start the weather versus day length piss match. I do believe that these Temps will have some effect on the birds, although I believe length of day is more important. I used to be on the day length only side until 2012. Although 2012 was very odd. I still was having gobbling in May.

I'll say this, it seems like the milder the winter the worst the hunting. The birds haven't been acting right the past few years and the gobbling continues to dwindle.

I didn't realize how sensitive turkeys were to global warming...

Been breeding for 3 weeks up on the mountain.... :stir: :stir:
Not yet, but it won't be long, regardless of whether or not it stays warm or gets frigid again. ;) Headed down South next Tuesday to hunt some turkeys that have sure 'nuff been breeding for at least the last 3 weeks. Pay me $900 a gun and I'll take your whole crew on a truly, pure strain Osceola turkey hunt. Of course these won't be some outfitters pets, so ya'll will have to bring your A game :D I'll even let ya'll carry your 20 gauges, but if so, I'll have to hand you over to my 9yr old niece and her "Jennies" crew for guiding

"The earlier calls the old man(Sr.) made were longer and thicker walled. They had more weight to them. Early 40's through mid 80's. Then they switched to a shorter, thinner walled, lighter call, which is what JR. is building today. Both proven killers, but Sr's are more durable. Between me, my old man, and 3 uncles, we've got 11 of the originals. Everyone of us still hunts them to this day. I bet those 11 calls have called to the gun close to 800 pure strain Osceola turkeys from the Big Cypress up to and around Fisheating Creek. ;) Sure wish Old Man Williams was still here. He'd sure love to talk about them. Maybe his son will read this and chime in."

I cant be sure for a fact but if I was a betting man I'd say this a quote you made..

I might would consider your offer if I could see some pics of those 800-900 pure strain swamp gobblers your crew has killed with those ol scratch boxes......Of course I'd expect the niece to use one of the scratchers too.......

10-4 I don't go to the woods without one ;)

Hey Roost, pics could incriminate :o It's no secret down there that my kin sometimes "stretched the limit". They never killed more than they could eat and never killed one out of season though. Wild turkey has always been a staple amoungst us "Crackers". Poachers just the same I reckon. Mindsets have changed over the years. I figure if my kin, a few close friends, mother nature, and both the Seminole's and Miccosukee's couldn't wipe them out, the population is pretty safe. We still hunt some of the same places we hunted 50yrs ago and find plenty of turkeys to this day. I will show you some very impressive beard boards if you ever make it down though ;) As for my niece, although she runs that scratcher pretty well, her old man will be doing most of the calling this upcoming Saturday morning with his. She'll be sitting between his legs doing the shootin, no blinds, no decoys, no BS.

My man! Wish you all luck and glad you're doing the real way. Like you I never used the crutches when I was young and love that some still teach kids how to hunt rather then just shoot

Thank you. My handle may have changed, but my idea of what constitutes "real" turkey hunting never will. We are and always will be "old school" ;) That's all I will say about that. I'm running out of friggin usernames
