Shot what I was thinking was my nemesis bird a couple weeks ago, but I think I was wrong. Took the neighbor boy out twice last week and this morning, and this bird acts BAAAAAADDD. Gobbles his fool head of on the roost. Gobbles at every call I give him. WILL NOT COME ANY CLOSER THAN 100yds. That was day one. Day two was raining early no roost gobbles. Trying to decide what to do, he gobbles on the back side of hill in the small pasture we were in. Call once, and he gobbles 100yds further away, and then again further away in a few minutes. This morning we split up...me on the ridge and hm on the pasture. He gobbled about 500 times on the roost. I got him started with a hoot at 525. I circled all the way around him so that when I called he would go down to the pasture. At 630 he is still on the roost and gobbling like crazy! We had a church workday that started at 730, so I had to do something. I did a fly down cackle beating my hat, and he hammered back. Gobbles twice more and shut up. Waited for 30 min and nothing. Had to leave so I get up in frustration and walk right to his roost tree... he's nowhere! Grrrr. I was maybe 125 yes away from his roost, and I don't know how he flew down and I didn't hear or see him. We walk back to the truck and I take him back to his house which is about half mile from this pasture. Get out, close the door and he double gobbles!$:)&;9). Oh, this is sooo bad. This is very very similar kind of behavior from the last two years and probably 15 hunts. I've told the neighbor boy to just go sit on that pasture without a call until he shows up! The only thing I haven't tried is a gobble call, but I don't have one.lol. I might see if Setterman will let me borrow his decoy spread :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash:

Sounds like this guy knows you and your calls... Prolly wouldn't be too hard to kill since he gobbles so much.. Leave the call at home!!!!

Ouch! That really hurts Roost...easy to kill? Can I go off on you for saying something I don't like and ask you to be banned? :poke: If I cloud, I'd invite you or one of the other fellas to help me out but it's not my property.

In my defense, I've only been able to hunt this bird till about 730 each time I've been on him. I think if I had more time I could keep on him and whack him. My plan if I have a chance this year still is to just let him do his thing and get in front him.

Time and patience are 2 very important factors... I'd set aside a whole day for a bird such as this.. He does not have a set schedule, although on hot days he may show up under a certain shade tree about the same time. Good luck!! I love hunting the tough ones, they make the best memories.

I had a gobbler in a tree last sat morning that I could see. Wasn't 75 yards away and he gobbled in the tree well after he shoulda flown down. A few mins later a see a hen walking to his tree and he just dropped straight down to her and bred her 15 mins later. I never heard the hen call or fly down and also never heard him fly down. Your nemises might have a hen or 2 but they are just quiet.

I hate to say I told you so, but ... :) !

Good luck putting him out of your misery :) !

If I had a bird to hunt like that it would be game on. If he gobbles when you hunt him you can keep up with his location. If he was such a thorn in your side I think I'd be after him long past 7:30.

Yeah, you are indeed correct. I just haven't been able to give him the time it takes. Last year I was building my house, this year I had my 6th child (all girls) on April 2nd, which while I did have 3 weeks off from work I just have a lot of other things on my plate that come before hunting. I can get out till 7-730 on my days off before I need to tend to those more important things. I'd really like to sneak out to his roost area in the evening and try to get him on the way to roost. Last year there were many mid mornings he would gobble on his own and I'd get after him, but not once have I heard him this year.
