For a couple of days, then I will miss it again and eagerly await next year.
We are still having plenty of action, as we always do at the end of the season.
Wed. was in middle TN, and only had one bird hammering in the tree. However, he had three hens and two other longbeards in his posse. The other two never gobbled, and he never made a peep once he flew into the field. He did breed one of the hens.
They skirted the far end of the field for the first hour, then they made their way back our way .. slowly. Finally the hens passed by us, and it wasn't long until one of the gobblers was in tow. The old fella missed! I'm resolved that it just isn't going to happen with him, but that won't keep me from trying tomorrow!
Thursday and today a young man and I were on the hottest bird all year. BUT, he has drawn a line in the sand, which just so happens to be on the other side of a tangled mess of growth and a pretty good creek. He won't cross it, and I can't get to him. I'm at the edge of a small field and there have been birds in it for years, and I just happen to get on one that is too stupid to figure out how to get through the mess !
Oh well, one more hunt in middle TN tomorrow and then maybe one more shot at this joker!
Anyone else still playing?
