[color:#000000]I have heard that a hen with chicks will puff up & fan, to show dominance or to protect her chicks, but I have never seen it.
The big doe must have made her nervous.
She might not want to do that next spring.

Very cool pic and wish I had a camera a few yrs ago. Was hunting last wknd of season in Hickman co. Sitting in a fencerow between a grassy field and a grown up weed field, calling. Had a hen start responding and got very fired up, cutting, clucking, yelping and even somewhat cackling, as she flew over the fence and was actually on the same log with me about 15 ft away, she blew up a lil and fanned her tail out and was moving it up and down like a gobbler sometimes does!! Unbelievable show and I doubt she had chicks yet but was very likely nested nearby.
