Turkey gods gave me one this morning. Made the hr and half drive to Wilson Cty with a young fella.
Had several to choose from. Went toward two. Easy walk inside a cedar thicket that lines the field. Almost went too far as we got close to the hens. I had him in front and I was slightly back with the field to our left.
Two gobblers alternated from each side of the field. After fly down it was apparent that the hens were coming toward us. Three walked right by at 20 yds then three more on the other side of the field. Soon one gobbler followed in the middle but close enough to our side. When I figured he wasn't seeing him I took the shot. I'll just say it was in excess of 50 steps but the longbeard 5s did the trick.
Almost 22 lbs, 10" beard, 1" spurs.
We played with others before he needed to get back for work. We were hindered by a flat tire but made it back in time.
