If you are bored.... turkey article

I realize you are not that serious of a Turkey Hunter, and I mean no offense to you personally, but being a very serious Turkey Hunter, I personally can not take anyone to serious who is ignorant enough to believe that "truly wild", well educated Turkeys are very dumb.

I personally can not take anyone too serious who is ignorant enough to have never mastered the 3rd grade concept of "to, too and two".

Good article Ruger. I am on the side of "adamantly against" due to the sporting aspect of it. I also believe anyone crawling around behind a turkey fan during turkey season is taking their life into their own hands.

I'm not a serious turkey hunter, but personally I see nothing wrong with it (other than personal safety) We "rattle" for big bucks to trigger their fighting instinct and no one bats an eye. Bucks are triggered by sound, turkey by sight. If it's legal and you are OK with it, then do it... If you don't like it, don't do it. JMO

And again, I'm not the serious turkey hunter, as it tends to interfere with my fishing time.

Turkey's are dumb and im as hardcore as anyone that hunts them. Ever seen a spooked Turkey at a fence? Ever pull up to one next to the road and call to watch em gobble? For peaks sake , they are fooled by the hideous funky chicken. Heck throw a fan up in the air and they come running. They beat up on plastic decoys and dont even realize they ain't real. Watch his buddy get killed then turn around a jump on him even after a stick of dynamite just went off?

No turkeys aren't smart. They are paranoid but drop their guard way down like every other critter when sex is on the brain. We agree on a lot (hate decoys and blinds) but turkeys having a high IQ isn't one. Educated is just another excuse. Do they adapt to certain things like pressure? Of course but it doesn't make them unkillable or "run" from turkey sounds .

Good article Ruger, but that Jonathan guy sounds like a moron :D !

It's not there fault, their trying to do they're best...

Turkeys aren't very smart. They do have an innate ability to try to stay alive while everything tries to kill & eat them...

Good read Ruger, thanks for sharing.

My personal opinion is they are the dumbest smart creatures ever created and one of the hardest to kill.
Back when I had the property to hunt I was as serious as anybody that has ever hunted them lol

Turkeys are extremely stupid with a unbelievable sense of survival is how I describe them.

Their superhero senses and perpetual paranoia is what can sometimes make them a challenge to the out of the woods. My mentor told me, "If a man can sit still a deer will think he's a stump...a wild turkey assumes every stump is actually a man."

Smart, dumb, who cares. They are tough to call up for any turkey hunter and a helluva lot more fun to hunt than a dang deer. It's why I enjoy it so much, it's a tough game to play and most the times I lose.
Good read.

I have crawled before but not hiding behind a fan or decoy but dodging cow patties. The sobs still got me. They may be dumb or stupid but they usually won out over me back when I hunted. The only wild animal that has really made me mad before.

That just shows where I fit in in the grand scheme of things. Outsmarted by a #$$&£ turkey.

Nice article ruger.
