At how close you can get to a turkey while she's sitting on the nest and also at my inability to chew corn properly, but that's a different topic.

Actually stepped on this hen while walking across a field. I screamed like a girl :o She has 13 eggs.

Do they sit on the nest all night?

Dang I've come close but never stepped on a hen :D They will definitely lie low sometimes... I was also wondering the same thing, do they sit on their eggs overnight or roost nearby?

From what I have read in scientific journals and wild turkey management books, and witnessed somewhat while afield, the hens will roost in a nearby tree very low to the ground during the laying period (laying eggs over the course of a few weeks), but she will roost on her eggs pretty much every night all night during the incubation period (basically 22-23 hrs/day only taking short breaks and sometimes sitting on nest 48-72 hours straight without a break).

Ha ! I bet that was a surprise !! Just thinking of how bad a covey of quail can scare the daylights out of ya much less a turkey !!
I would think they would sit all night, maybe not at first but once the laying is finished I would say so. Maybe someone who knows will fill us in or I think I will search it and see :)

Ok, I didn't know because I was set up about 30 yards from the nest but it wasn't really a good direction for me to see though. I had no idea she was there.

Jesse since you know were the nest is, if you have a trail cam, it would be neat to set it up and do a series of pics or vids !! Kinda like the live eagle cams etc etc. That would also tell you the answer to your question !! I would like to find a nest and set a cam up.

I'd have to change my underwear if I did that. When we built our house 10 years ago there was a hen with nest about 50 yards from my front door and you could walk to within 10 feet and still not hardly see her. There's a blackberry patch just outside off my garage that's on the back of a neigbors property and there's normally a nest in there. Its pretty cool to see them.

That is a good idea, but don't have one as I'm not a deer hunter. Plus it's public land, so the camera probably wouldn't get to stay very long. I just hope she comes back and I think she will. I made the grass stand back up around the nest where I had stepped.

I'd have to change my underwear if I did that.

Thus the comment about the corn :D
