I dont normally write up long stories BUT in this case most of you have been following my chronicles if these group of birds that have frustrated me like never before.

SOOOO to recap, I have set up on these birds in a bunch of different ways. I have set up level with them to the east and west and they always seem to go another way. I cant get above them without being busted on how the land rolls and with no leaves it just wouldnt be possible with all the hens and jakes in the group, PLUS they never seem to go up anyways. I have set up out in the field they fly into in a bunch of different ways but you are limited due to the shear size of the field and cows not to mention there is zero cover. I have had days I watch them do the same thing 2 days in a row so I prepare for that and just so happens they wont do it 3 days in a row haha. There is a group of jakes (10-12) that have ruined it for me a few times by coming in first and the toms hang out of range or follow the hens the other way.

SO today I went with plan H (A-G were all busts) by going in the dark and getting on the edge of the field where I thought they would be and where they have been coming out of the woods into the field. Well it didnt start so well, once the sun came up I was like 25 yds from the jakes in the tree and the toms were 80yds down the ridge behind me. this was a problem because I had no good way to turn behind me if they came out that way and I didnt have a ton of cover. then the 2nd issue, the freaking cows come rolling up on me right at fly down and I mean like 5yds from me just staring at me. I couldnt spook them away because the jakes were right above me pretty much so I was screwed. Toms fly down behind me but sound like they are going the other way which was disheartening. Jakes fly down right infront of me and I could have shot them a few times but worked there way out into the field about 150yds out.

I honestly was just waiting for them to go away so I could get up and move on some other birds I still heard gobbling on the far end of the field, but then I hear gobbles behind me getting closer. Finally able to shift enough to actually see and its 4 toms and 3 hens working down the field toward me HOWEVER they are 150yds out and going down the fence line in no way seeming to come back up to where I was. So at this point in reality the cows actually help some as they are finally moving away from me by providing me cover to yugo my body and gun around without being busted.

SO the toms start fighting with each other which attracts the jakes, then its a no holds bar rumble going on! in the mayhem 2 toms get separated from the brawl so I start cutting really hard and then do a long fighting purr and then gobble on my tube call. For once it finally seemed to work cause the 2 that got out of the fight head right up to me. they were not the boss for sure but at this point I didnt care. Shot him in the head at 30yds!

I want to publicly apologize to all the cows in Trousdale County for the things I have thought and said to them the past few days. Today my friends I thank you for helping me stay behind you so I could move and be successful hahaha

On a side note: its days like today that always make me think of god and the blessings of life no matter what else is going on in my day to day world. I am sure god doesnt care if I kill a turkey or not, however I have always believed that god gives you opportunities to praise his glory and really put life in perspective. I want to thank god for all the many blessings I have in life and allowing me to have the health to do what I love to do as well as placing people in my life that have places I can do it at. All the praise to him whether I kill turkeys or not, thank you for blessing me with the opportunities to go

Persistence pays off even with the help of cows. :tu: Congrats buddy! And you're right about being blessed and thanking God for it. I was reminded of that last week as a neighbor was diagnosed with a brain tumor that is cancer and she has two kids..a 7th grader and 9th. She starts treatment tomorrow and their worlds have been turned upside down in the blink of an eye. Live each day like it's your last and have no regrets. Oh well enough of that and congrats again.

We are certainly not guaranteed anything and each breath a blessing - whether we remember it or not. Just remember that next time the cows AREN'T a blessing.

Nothing like mimicking a gobbler fight to instigate a brawl then pull in the satellite birds. It's one of the few times you can slap wear out a mouth call and have it actually work. Congrats on the successful hunt.

And I HATE cows as well... but remember, they are the whole reason you even have turkeys on that place. No cows and it's unlikely you would even hear a gobble. Nothing attracts turkeys more than 3 month old cowpies to flip and pick bugs out from under. Creep feeders for calves don't hurt either :)

Congrats on a great year and bird....but the picture could use some work. The shotgun with camo finish blends in to well with the tree as well as the off centered angle of the lean. :) :)
