When I got the news this morning about Jeff going home to be with Jesus, I was bummed. Could not think straight. Life is so precious, so short, and so taken for granted.

I shut off my computer, changed into my camo and decided to go out for an hour or two to the woods to just "clear my head". On the way, I was thinking, if I am fortunate enough to kill a Tom in this short window of time I have to get away, I will dedicate it to the memory of Jeff. I said a prayer as I was driving, asking God to bring comfort to Jeff's family and friends in this very emotional and difficult time------'and God, if it be your will, allow me to harvest a bird in memory of this fine fellow that you now have at home, and pain free, with you.'

I was out there 45 minutes and I had my bird. One could not ask for a better hunt. I wont go into all the details as it would make for a long story, and the intent is not to take the focus off the real purpose of this post.

Jeff, my friend, rest in peace. This is for you!

23 lbs.
10" beard
1.25" spurs.

To put it in proper perspective, I have hunted this place HARD this season and have yet to even get close to a bird.

Today's success was not mere coincidence!

Great story and thanks for sharing!! I to lost a close friend this year, 1 week before turkey season opened! He was an avid turkey hunter and a awesome guy who love the Lord. Tyler was only 26.

I have never killed a turkey. My first bird will be in memory of him!!

Great bird and great story Knothead.

Browtines and I tried to kill a Tom in NBF's Memory this Saturday too. We talked to four of them and this one walked on a string toward us, but none would close the distance.

I guess the Tom's are just getting tired of dying in NBF's Memory! :D
