Infrared test pics coming back almost all white

I bought a Wildgame Innovations "Micro 6 Red" camera.

It's my first trail camera, and so I'm going through the learning curve. I propped it up on the dresser in the bedroom, turned the lights off, and stood on the other side of the room waving my hands.

It took a few pictures, which I then took to my computer for review. They are coming back nearly all white - only the darkest objects in the room are discernible. The only camera setting I changed was moving the resolution from "high" to "medium", thinking it might save some space on the card for more pics.

I'm going to run a couple more tests to see if it's screwed up in any other way, but thought you guys might be able to give advice.

Sounds like the IR filter is stuck in daytime mode. Try shaking the camera lightly and see if the filter will move back and forth.

Ir filter sticking will cause the whiteouts.
 
Hmm...thanks for the suggestion. Doesn't seem to be doing anything different. Took some pictures with lights on and off, no apparent difference - just very, very white (I can barely see the outline of my hair (the darkest thing on my face) in a few of them.

I guess my first trail camera is a bust. I'm glad I tested it at home first!
 
The enclosed room can do it too. Are the walls and ceiling a light color? Take it out in the yard and try it. Bet it will be alot better. 99% of the commercial junk when the ir filter changes to night mode it also changes the iso from 200 to 800 or 1000. That is why the pics are so grainy and motion blurr occurs. We do not have this problem in the homebrews.
 
Update:

I took the Micro 6 IR Wildgame Innovations camera back to Bass Pro in Memphis. I went for an even exchange of the same camera, but they were completely out of stock. I had asked for help from one of the guys in the gun section, and he said "word of wisdom - don't buy these cameras. They are junk."

He recommended that I get the 5 MP micro-sized Moultrie. It was about $140, but I got the original camera on sale and therefore had only about $100 of store credit to work with.

Long story short, I'm on a tight budget at the moment and didn't have an extra $40 to blow. I mentioned my dilemma to Customer Service, the manager was called, and he approved a price reduction to save me about $20 off the difference.

Hats off to BPS on the good customer service! I brought my camera home and tested it out in both light and dark environments with no problems. Looks like I'll be setting it out soon!
