This morning was one for the books I tell ya! My apologies because this is gonna be long. Before it was light enough to see, I had deer about 30 yards from me. I couldn't see them and didn't know they were even there until one blew at me. You are talking about almost jumping out of my skin it scared me to death 😂 Then it got lighter and I could see what I assume were the same little tattletale slick heads that snitched on me. I watched them for a good 20 minutes feed in a corn field. They were on someone else's property behind me and I wasn't going to catch a charge so I watched. Fast forward about 30 minutes later and out of nowhere 3 dogs go running through the field. The never got close enough for me to attempt to catch one to see who their owners were. After they disappeared I kept hearing a whistle. This was a human and not a bird. It turned out 2 guys were rabbit hunting and about to come down the fence row where I was! I called the folks that own the land I was on and those fellows weren't supposed to be there. Not sure what will come of that but it was definitely an interesting day. I still never got cold 😂

Gotta love it. No doubt they'll tell you they had permission from the owner. I've had idiots tell me they had permission from the owner, having no clue I am the owner. And they argue it.

On a side note, man I really miss hunting rabbits with beagles. Absolute funnest hunting I've ever done, even more so than dove hunting or frog gigging.

In some sections of mid/tn there is a subspecies of cotton tail that we call a Red Back. Has a fur that is reddish along the back. This type of rabbit will take dogs clean out of hearing. Many times, that a new guy with dogs will get all bent out of shape since the dogs are out of hearing, until one of the guys will say, "Must be a redback " dog owner still worried about where dogs are and someone will say "They will be back " and sure enough the rabbit will come back almost to the spot he was jumped

Sounds like an interesting morning MD. Sometimes those snitching does will catch the attention of other deer(bucks) in the area, and by nature they may come to investigate.

Had the same happen before, and had one even tell me I didn't know my property lines. Where he was at the time was across a channel, the channel being the line. Some people are just ignorant.

The best is when they try to run you off for trespassing 😂 Luckily I've not had any real issues with trespassers. Other than a few stolen trail cams nobody has ever set up camp or broke in or torn anything up. I get the occasional lost hiker or somebody on horseback who can't read a map, and very seldom a gun season hunter who wanders on without realizing it.

You never know what could happen, dogs and other hunters can push deer to you. Once had a cow spook a deer right to me lol
