went out scouting my main spot again this morning. birds had no issue gobbling which was cool, and they started early (before 6am). The great and crappy part is one this spot they are VERY MUCH still in one big flock. had prob 60 birds fly down into one giant group in the middle of this big field with 10 or so toms and 10 or so jakes in there.

the interesting part is a dang coyote came out stalking them. ive seen it before but this time I guess because the group was so big they didnt even seem all that bothered. That coyote ran in and out of the group for 30mins and the birds never even ran off, they just parted like a school of fish when he trotted into them. Heck some of the toms never even broke strut. He eventually just wondered off. The frustrating part is I always bring a rifle with me out here when scouting incase I see one and it just happened to be the one morning I didnt bring it cause I didnt feel like carrying it out there. It would have been a heck of a shot either way as he was about 300yds from me and wasnt the biggiest yote Ive ever seen. Was just interesting to see a group of birds that big not really bothered by a predator right next to them.

Animals do strange things. It's possible the yote was full and not on a "hungry" hunt. It's possible that with flock having numbers they may have jumped on the yote before especially if he was a young one. Who knows?

I'd be worried about that yote after the flock busts up and he can find a lone bird. Some coyotes get a taste for turkey I think

Not surprised about the big flock in middle TN. I'm getting reports of multiple gobblers with 10-20 hens here in SW TN, and we are usually 10 or more days ahead of middle TN. I hope every hen gets bred for the betterment of turkey hunting in out years.

I have not been seeing birds in fields like normal this year. They're up in the woods a lot more than usual for late March. Only thing I know of that may affect this is there are still a lot of red oak acorns on the ground right now. I'm hoping the birds are pushing 25 pounds like they were in 2015, last time we had surplus of acorns.

They are behind in TN from what my Dad has sent me pics of.... still several winter flocks around.

So strange bc they are way ahead of schedule here in south MS. Gobblers are already without hens. Pulled cams yesterday and several pics of hens without toms and a few pics of toms without hens
