I have a question for the minds of TNDeer. I'm fairly new to archery, so a lot of this stuff might as well be greek to me. I bought a bow earlier this year and had a local shop set it up for me. They installed a peep sight and a loop on the string for me. The peep is nothing fancy, but it does the job. I took a pic of it (link below) so you could see it if the style matters. Anyways, the first several times I got out to shoot it, everything was fine. The other day, I went out to practice and couldn't hardly see through the peep because the string going around the peep was in my way. I continued shooting it to see if it would "work itself out", but now it's in the wrong position about 60% of the time (with the string blocking the view through the peep).

Am I doing something wrong or do I need to adjust something or what??

Here's a link to the pic of the peep sight.

Thanks!

Okay, what has happened most likely is the peep has rotated a little. The good news is, it is an easy fix. You have a Sherz A Peep type peep. The string is divided into three different segments and ran throught grooves in the peep.

First let make sure the peep hasn't moved. Close you eyes and draw your bow. Use you release and go to a safe area. Put an arrow on the string. Draw the bow with your eyes closed. Find your anchor point and settle in until you're comfortable. Open your eyes and look at your front sight. You should be able to see the front sight perfectly centered in the peep. If not, move the peep up or down to center your front sight. If the peeps seem to be set right (up and down), but the string segment is still obscuring your vision, let the bow down.

Try to twist the string loop either clockwise or counter clockwise a 1/4 turn. This should help twist the string a little to get the peep to clear. If this won't work, try to slide the knots tied in the string above and below the peep wider or more close together, don't move them much. Keep them the same distance from the peep in realation to one another (ex.if you move one up a tick or two move the other one in the opposite direction the same amount, so the peep is centered between them). If you can't get it there take it back to the shop and have them adjust it. It is easiest to put the bow in a press and do this.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Hoss! My first instinct was to try turning the loop, but when I found that it doesn't move easily, I decided to ask some smarter folks versus taking any chances.

The help is much appreciated!

For what it's worth, the loop is in a different spot now (about 1/8th of a turn) from where it was when the bow was first set up. That must be the issue! Now, hopefully I can get that loop turned without messing anything up. It's rather tight! Again, thanks!

Yeah! You want it tight. If it is not tight then it will move around on the string. It will move but you need to work at it. And don't do that a lot or you could loosen it up so it doesn't grip the string. That can cause a lot of problem, like broken teeth! :)
