It's hard getting up so early every day!

You must live closer to your turkey hunting property than I do. If I got up at 5:30, I wouldn't be in the woods until 7:15

I try to be out the door by 5. 25 minutes to the farm. Then about a 5 minute walk. There would be no way to be im at dark leaving by 5:30.

I don't why anyone would have to get up at 3 am to turkey hunt. I set me aslarm for 530

I set mine for 3.15 on opening morning, because I'm hunting a WMA, and believe me I was the first one there by 5 minutes, another guy drove up and got out and then a 3rd truck came in, did a U turn and left.

Now I set my alarm for 4 something, just so I can be there before sunrise sometime, to hear them on the roost. I don't roost them the night before, but I know they'll be somewhere along this one tree line so I just go and set up and listen, maybe call a little, and then lose track of them for a while.

I usually have to get up real early just to make the long walks into wherever Im hunting. Dont have a drive much over 15 minutes but have some walks that take over an hour to get where I wanna be at gobble time.

I always plan my public hunts to get there early. I try to guess what time will the average hunter show up then get there 30 minutes earlier. Saturday at LBL got there early and was standing on the edge of a field waiting on a gobble then saw a light coming at us. Had no choice but to head in the woods. last year same thing happend but we stayed on the field since the light went away. Turns out they just turned off the light and slipped through the woods around us cutting us off. Not this time.

i like getting up early, eating something and sitting around for a bit before i leave. Most of my spots are only 15mins away but i still try and be up by 4:30ish just to make sure i have everything i need and i always like to be early rather then late.

unless you have one roosted, i see no need to get in the woods before daylight.
LOL, I hope your either joking or being sarcastic?? Getting to the woods well before daylight, has ended with finding a bird to kill, and getting in position undetected, well before flydown, too many times to count! Getting there early and watching the woods creatures, along with the Turkeys, wake up and come to life, and start talking on the limb, is where its at!!! IMO
My boys absolutely love to Owl and have Gobblers sound off on the limb, nothing quite like finding birds you never even knew existed, 30 mins before daylight!!
If you dont go to the Turkey woods before daylight, on purpose, you likely dont know a great deal about the subject! :D

I am not fortunate enough to be able to hunt every day of the season.
Maybe one day I will be able to do it.
I know with deer hunting after a while I get burnt out and don't want to get up anymore.
I swear I don't know if that would happen with turkey season or not.

I love it.

Cool article though.
