After the rainy spring last year i wasnt expecting much in the way of young turkeys this year. So far on 4 properties ive seen at least 20 if not a couple more and then 8 or 9 more on public land.my buddy sent me a pic of 6 in his driveway in lawrence county and invited me over to hunt but i told him id wait a year. I hope the next several years produce hatches like the last 3. Lawrence county keeps getting stronger but it needs some serious maintenance.

I hardly saw any at all but wlf89 saw 7 or 8 in a group in the same area I hunted so I guess I just got lucky and avoided the jakes this year.

I've seen enough to give me confidence in last spring's hatch, but not as many as I saw last year. Of course spring hatch conditions two years ago were epic so that explains that.

I'm sure several more will be killed in the next 4 days, but as of right now, statewide - total kill numbers are down 2,500 from last year and jake kill numbers are down 1,240 from last year. I'm not sure if the decline in jake kill numbers is a good thing or bad thing.

Last year I routinely saw two bands of jakes; 14 in one and 9 in the other. Didn't actually see any this year but have tons of pics so I'm satisfied. My immediate area has had 2 years of stellar hatches.

I saw 3 jakes two weeks ago in Lincoln county. Haven't seen a jake all season in any of the other spots I hunt in, nor on sides of roads. Saw 2 Jakes in North AL in early April.

Other than those I havent seen any since last spring. Private, public, side of the road, no where. Didn't even see jakes on the fall hunts I did. Pitiful.

I've seen enough to know I'll have a few 2 year olds to hunt next year but not even remotely close to the amount I saw last year. Last year was by far the most I'd ever seen.

Saw 5, 4, and 6 on our hutnting properties. We could have doubled out of the 6 this morning but they look so much better with a long beard.
