The other thread got me thinking, are you seeing lots of jakes this year? I called in a pack of 11 yesterday.

I'm seeing more jakes, but fewer longbeards.

However, there have been past years with similar observations,
yet the very next year, there would then be FEWER longbeards than the prior year!

Seems we have an increasing mortality trend of all young turkeys,
especially during their first 18 months of being a turkey!

Predators are adapting more each year to specifically hunt turkeys.

And when human hunters see an increase in jakes,
they become more likely themselves to shoot a jake.
I'm not expecting to see many more longbeards next year than this year.

Last year we had several big groups of jakes and this year have a lot of long beards. I'm not seeing as many jakes this year but I am see a few. I called in three this morning. The hen population is what worries me. Last year our hen population got real low but I think we had a good hatch last year. I have seen an increase in hen sightings this year. We need another real good hatching this year.

Seeing more Jakes this year as well. Had a single super Jake slip in Sunday. He was gobbling like a big boy and it cost him...

Personally witnessed 9 Jakes gobble this year and only one actually sounded like a Jake?

My son passed on 10 jakes Saturday morning. One of them gobbled numerous times. I seen a Jake at a different place this morning so we have seen 11.

I heard a gobble this morning a little before daylight and went and set up. I called a little and he gobbled back. Shut up for
awhile amd then.......it sounded like 4 or 5 gobbled next. They flew down and you guessed it 5 jakes. Later a hen came to them and took them with her. I found another spot. They sounded mature too.

More jakes this year than we've had in the past 10 years. Others in the area are saying the same. Not many hens though. Lawrence county

About the same number on my farms. Just like usual, feast or famine as they are bunched up. May go a couple days without seeing one, then a group of 5 comes by.

Nothing like back in the day when groups of 20 to 30 jakes in group were the norm.

Seen a few on trail camera, none in person while hunting. Nothing impressive thus far, if anything, under impressed to this point. Still a lot of season in front of me.

Everytime I've heard a Jake gobble, it's been a strange sort of attempt at gobbling.

I guess some of them can gobble better than others.
