NFL great, broadcast icon John Madden dies at 85

Hall of Fame coach-turned-broadcaster John Madden, whose exuberant calls combined with simple explanations provided a weekly soundtrack to NFL games for three decades, died Tuesday morning. He was 85.

They showed a piece on him at halftime of the Mississippi State / Texas Tech game. Always enjoyed him as a commentator.

You knew you were watching the best game of the day when he and Pat Summeral were there. This was when the NFL was worth watching. When you had people with dignity on the field and authority figures to look up to when growing up. Not a commentator alive has his energy or ability to call a game like he did.

Summerall was doing a promo for "Cops" during a game and Madden interrupted him and said "you always know who did it on that show. It's always the guy without his shirt on." LoL. RIP coach.
