As everyone starts shooting again and getting ready for September be sure and flex test your arrows even if they are brand new! I never did untill last year. I opened a box of Gold Tips and flexed one and it snapped on the first flex! I sure would hate to shoot one and have it splinter into my arm! Hurts just thinking about it!

Had to remind a new member of this just the other day. Visually inspect as well just to make sure and catch the chips and nicks on the ends of the arrow as well.

I agree, flex test them every time you shoot is my advice. I flex tested last year and STILL had one blow up on me that same afternoon while practicing. It scared the sh*% out of me as I was not expecting it at all. That was the first arrow I have ever had blow up on me in 16 years of shooting (10 years of shooting carbons). I am very fortunate nothing more than the arrow was damaged. The arrow was actually destroyed, splintered into dozens of pieces.

Ive heard an easy way to tell if a arrow has a chip or splinter in it is to rub a cotton ball up and down the shaft.

Ouch! Glad you didn't get hurt!

Now that I flexed it and it didn't break, how do I get it back straight?

Can a aluminum shaft blow up like a carbon shaft can?
I don't think they are prone to blow up like carbon, due to carbon being fibers, and aluminum being (whatever it is). When I started bowhunting 25 years ago, I shot aluminum and never had one break on me. Switched to carbons about 12 years ago, again, never had one break during the shot. Now, I'm back to shooting aluminum, none broken.

Is there a reason you shoot aluminum over carbon?
A couple reasons.

1) $42 a dozen for shafts, full price. Cheaper if you shop around.

2) All my shots are inside 25 yards, most are 12-15. A light, fast shooting arrow means nothing to me. I actually put 2 feet of 1/4 inch yellow nylon rope inside each shaft. My total arrow weight with broadhead is 585 grains. If I can get a deer inside 20 yards, which is what I want, I don't have to worry about shot angle. I'm poking two holes in it from any direction.

3) Can be cut with a $2 pipe cutter from Big Lots.

Well dang! If that doesn't punch a hole through a deer then something is wrong! lol
I don't think aluminum would work to well for me though. I tend to have a lot of 30-40 yard shots so I want to eliminate as much arrow drop as possible!
