We talked some football and he told me a couple great stories that I never knew.... :)

He was one of the best calling games... :)

You never know who you might meet in the waiting room. Me with my Gators' ball cap on and he was wearing a UT polo..... :D

I guess if he knew how you talked on here, you would have just gotten the finger lol

You realize some of us are just cutting up on here... Lol

Mr. Ward actually gave me a surprising answer to one of my questions. So I think he's pretty level headed when talking about football in general.

He told me calling the games were a hobby and his career was in advertising. He mentioned that calling the games was a way to have free ticket into the game.... :)

He was the best I ever heard and was something to look forward to on those fall afternoons.

As long as he was the sportscaster, a UT game on TV was watched with the TV sound off and with John Ward on the radio.

40,35,30,25,20,15,10,5,4,3,2,1,give him 6,touchdown Tennessee!!I loved to listen to John Ward, just not the same without him!

When he first started calling basketball they were in Starkville, I think it was, and the old gym had a draft blowing in on him and he was loosing his voice. Somebody fetched him a towel to put around his neck to help his throat. It just happened to be blue. It was blue because that's all that was available at the time. He stayed with it.

I missed that one.... Lol

He told me that the main reason the OBC ended up at UF besides UT running the wing-t. Coach Graves at UF had a relative that was a Post Master in E. TN that was a minister and friends with Spurrier's dad.

Interesting. All you ever hear on that is the wing-t stuff. For some reason history shows a lot of Fla/Tenn ties in athletics. Funny because the two states are so different.

Yep... Coach Graves was from Knoxville, TN, played at UT, and coached at UT & UF.

Doug Dickey played at UF, coached at UF, UT, and Admin. at UT.... :)
