Just wanted to give a shout out to the guy, whoever it may be, that walked in on me this morning on public land and shot the bird I have been watching for thd last 2 wkd out of the tree at 6am. I set up on this bird and he started gobbling at 545 in the pitch black. I fig it was bound to end bad as he wasnt that far from the parking area. I knew exactly where he was heading when he was to fly down. Anyway, at about 550 I noticed a figure coming down the exge of the field. The dude got within 40 yards and blew him off the limb. Saw it all go down. Dude then had the nerve to jump in his buddies truck who dropped him off and proceede to spin tires and throw roxks everywhere. So, THANKS you sack of s*$t!!

Yep, pretty dang sorry. Roost shooters ain't turkey hunters. Needs to be illegal to shoot turkeys off the roost in every state. Reminds me of this mornings hunt. I had one gobbling and coming in. A yote came in on him and spooked him into a tree about 35 yards in front of me. After the yote left he proceed to stay in the tree for about 25 minutes and started gobbling on the limb pretty good. I was already set up facing him and he had no idea I was there. I could of easily shot him out of the tree but I refused to do so. This bird had already been on the ground gobbling and this wasn't even his roost tree, but I just feel that strongly about it. I waited him out, and when he pitched back down I called him right back over and killed him on the ground. Some people are just killers and have no ethics.

That's pretty well the type of folks that are out in large numbers these days unfortunately.

I wish I knew who did it. I would send him a bill for the 3 hr drive. I got up at 2am and drove 3 hrs to hunt this place. By the time he shot him, the woods were full and I just stayed put. I didnt want to mess anyone else upwalking around trying to find another bird.

We got screwed up too. We had 2 strutters in a feild by a road. They were out there about 30 minutes, but never gave me a shot. This guy stops on the road and starts calling to them. The turkeys gobble twice and the dude just keeps calling. They finally take off running out of the feild. The dude just drives off. He never knew we were there. I was ticked. Sorry timberghost35, I didn't mean to high jack your fourm.

No problem Hunt2live. Sorry about your morning. I have never seen anyone where I have been hunting. Main reason I go there. This morning looked like they were giving away free steaks or something.

Lol. Good luck on your next hunt.

The days of being able to hunt public land are gone for me. I remember when there weren't many turkey hunters. Now, every jackleg with a shotgun and a crow call are in the woods messing up the real hunters. I hate it for you guys.

Congrats to a true turkey hunter!

I realize that this may start a debate, but that is not my intention. But where is all the back patting and "congrats on a legal kill", "as long as its legal, who are you to judge his kill", "lets all hold hands and support our fellow hunters, as long as it's legal" comments. How is this limbwacking any worse than other bush league turkey murders and reapings that are not ilegal?

PS, to the OP, this sucks bigtime and I hope the jackass slips on vomit.

Roost shooting has been going on for decades. SS as already pointed out it was illegal as it was before legal shooting hours. Nice try though.

Roost shooting in itself isn't bad, if legal and you really want to do it that way. Sneaking up to them on the roost isn't any tougher than calling a lonely 2 year old. Less sporting, yes, but that's up to you. I roost shot one once, and since have had no desire to do it again.

What makes this instance so wrong is the guy came into a spot where other people had obviously arrived before him and were hunting the area. Then he sneaks up to this bird before legal light, shoots him, jumps in the truck and peels out. That is terrible woodsmanship and zero courtesy, and I hope they got 2 flat tires on the way home.
