Hey guys and Gals, anybody here ever go to Kansas and hunt the Easterns out there? Looks like I may be heading that way in a week or so to hunt a few days. Got an invite from a couple buddies to go and hunt about 1,000 acres that a couple other friends of ours have bought, strictly to manage and hunt for Deer. From what I understand they have a lot of birds and these guys see them as a nuisance, as they manage strictly for big Whitetails. I've driven across Kansas a few times heading further West to hunt but never actually hunted Kansas, just wondering if anybody had any advice?

1000 acres can be pretty small for turkeys in Kansas. You're right about the landowners, though... most find the turkeys a nuisance. If you can get the names of the neighboring landowners, you can probably get permission to hunt thier properties for a case of beer as a backup plan if your primary property doesn't have many birds.

Yep thats exactly what these farmers told me, they say most any farmer will let you kill Turkeys as they hate them. These farms however are supposedly loaded with birds, as why we are going out there. thx.

I have never hunted KS myself but all of my buddies (~5 different guys) all say the same thing that you and Mega stated here. The more you kill, the happier the farmers and landowners are out their. Sounds like a good problem to have. :)

i've hunted out there twice, about an hour south of manhattan. everytime we went we killed turkeys. that's a spot where there's easterns, rios, and hybrids

Awesome sounds good, as I think we are fairly close to Manhattan as well.

Winchester, the spot we hunted was a friend of my brother in laws. he was stationed at Fort Riley, it was about a 700 acre farm. we always had an awesome time and saw huge flocks. good luck when you go there's a lot of birds out there

I hunted north of Wichita last year and had the opportunity to take two nice Rios. Man did we see the turkeys out there, I bet I saw 50+ long beards in 3 days.
