As the saying goes: work smarter AND harder! A great way to close the book on turkey killing in 2015!
I knew where a flock was coming out every day around 4:00, so I made a pine branch blind and waited on them. The Jeb's choke was pointed right at them when they cleared the last branch. Before I shot, I noticed that they were still bunched up pretty good, so--inspired by Catman--I wanted to pop at least two with one shot. When their heads were aligned and only slightly offset, I decided to squeeze the trigger and let the Remington 870 bark. Fortunately, just before I shot, a third one had apparently come in for a goodbye kiss. Two gobblers and a hen earned an all-expenses paid trip to our big family Thanksgiving! After I tolled the bell for these three, the rest of the flock frantically moved away, but never really left (probably updating their Facebook pages and taking video to upload to HenStar Hip Hop instead of getting out of Dodge). I could've kept going, but I just got up to get ready for the pre-1/4-mile-carry-to-the-truck photo session. The remainder of the flock was handed reprieve since it was the last sit of the last day of the fall season. They finally scattered when I cleared the tree line, but I'll see them again come spring.
