Nothing more satisfying than foolin a good non-gobblin, hooked, sharp spurred public land longbeard into coming to check you out and then killin 'em, especially when everyone huntin that ground says he ain't there ;)

Nothing more unsatisfying than shooting or hunting turkeys that won't gobble. Personally I don't kill non gobbling turkeys, because I choose to hunt vocal birds, if he won't gobble at least a little than I am headed to the house.

We have deer season to satisfy my desire to ambush silent prey.

So if he comes in silent you wouldnt shoot him?

Coming in silent has lots of variables. For instance earlier this season I had a bird that started free gobbling on his own around 9:00 am, I moved into position made a call which he answered. He never gobbled again and died at 25 steps after covering about 150 yards in 5 minutes.

Those "silent" birds die every time, but he technically wasn't silent since he had been gobbling and responded to my calling.

I will not sit and blind call in hopes a bird will show up, I will not sit in a blind trying to ambush one, and I will not sit in a spot where a turkey might show up and shoot one. That is just my personal preference.

I have killed a ton of birds, and at this point in my career I want to play the game. I want to move, reposition, and have a conversation with my quarry.

I have ZERO desire to shoot a bird that ghosts around the woods, or that I ambush.

To each their own, and hunt how you like, but for me this game isn't about killing, if anything the killing aspect is anti-climatic when compared to every thing else about turkey hunting.

best bird i ever killed,i never sung a note to.... b/c on a previous occasion i had called to this same bird and killed hid breathren he would never gobble...i know, i absolutley hate birds that wont gobble or play, but they learn this, and they learn quik silent birds are alot of times the most dominant,i spotted him pickin held up with this hen,not far from the house so in i went changed clothes, down the bottom in the back up the ridge circled around the ridge came down the hill on my butt in. at a time while he was in this field pickin,on my belly crawlin threw the thick stuff til i got to the fence, then i had to wizz, well you guessed it i had no other choice down but i was already soaked from all the rain off the trees, creeped up to the fence to see no turkey...my visibility was min. but i finally spotted him with cover from the honey suckle i rose to my knees then my feet yelped 2 times for hims to stik his head up and bam !!! @ 30 yds he met the 12th hr !!! :) hardest one i ever killed
