A turkey hunter in KY was killed this morning and his partner was wounded as well. They were shot by another hunter who fled the scene.

Please everyone be careful, there are idiots amongst us and the consequences severe.

There's now some speculation that it may have been a drug related shooting where hunters came upon a deal going down.

I can see that this day and time. My friend who lives about a mile from me his wife came home to a burglary in progress in the day lite yesterday. They took some jewelry and pills from a recent operation.

I can't see mistaking a man for a turkey.
Me neither. There just ain't much about a man that looks like a turkey such that I would mistake it for another hunter. Just hate to hear stories like this.

Although this was a drug deal, I know of a guy who was shot sitting beside a tree, mistaken for a turkey. Not to be satisfied with one shot, the shooter was fixing to shoot him again when the victim's hunting buddy yelled. The guy recovered, but his buddy gave up turkey hunting on the spot, and this has been years ago.

Sad regardless. Turkey hunting is a dangerous sport. I wasn't there and have no idea about the situation, so I will not comment about the shooter.

Makes you wonder....either they were standing, sitting extremly close to each other when shot or there were multiple shots to have gotten both of them. There must be some merit to intentional and not accidental shooting train of thought.

so sad.. prayers sent.. you can look down on me if you want but.. I always hunt turkeys out of my deer stand...

Very sad! I am still amazed at how stupid some people are. I have heard about cows, goats and other hunters being shot. None of which look anything like deer or turkeys. You do not have to be a smart person to know the difference. I just don't get it.

Following this on the Ky forum it seems they were shot from 40 yards or less. And the shooter had to stand up to fire the shot from a sitting position. If a person mistakes a human for a turkey at that range they don't need to be called a hunter or much less in the wood's.

I knew a guy like that once...even being in his 50's was so vain he wouldn't wear his glasses while hunting even. He showed up on my doorstep one night wanting me to tag a doe he had arrowed, he only had a buck tag left and swore he thought it was a buck.
