Anyone on here hunt on any Middle TN lakes? I have hunted Center Hill and Dale Hollow in the past and have thought about branching out to Cordell Hull or maybe a few others. My private land just doesn't hold any turkey so I am trying to prep earlier this year.

I'm gonna give it a shot this year but expect I won't be the only one out there. Just doing it to enjoy some fishing and camping while turkey hunting. Never done it before.

Be ready for alot of competition. Weekends are usually the worse.
I know I have talked to you before about it... does it get really bad where you hunt on the weekends? Lots of boats running around turkey hunting? I'll be out there regardless. Maybe catch some crappie or catfish if nothing else.

I did it a couple of times on Priest and to be honest I quit and just walk in. I found that many a boat is "fishing" and calling birds or just listening for a gobbling bird. Once located, they park the boat and grab the shotgun. That is an issue with hunting around lakes in general. Lots of guys will hear a bird and go after it, not knowing you are set up on it.

Its gotten to the point I almost don't want to go in before sun up, because I have located a gobbling bird and set up on him only to have some yahoo come in from the water and bump him or shoot at him on roost.

the lake I'm going to hardly has any road access at all. It will be me and whoever else is "fishing" for turkeys.

Cat, yes the weekends are worse. It like Bone was saying. You have the guys turkey hunting by boat and then you have the guys fishing with turkey gear in the boat. The later in the season the less chance of seeing or having run in with other hunters.
Twice last yr I had the same guy sneak in between me and a bird and shoot it as it was coming to my calling. It's public land so it is what it is. Just have to deal with it.

Cordell Hull has really went down hill IMO.

I have noticed the same thing, especially the last 2. Lots more pressure than I saw 3 years ago too. I've never hunted Center Hill, Dale Hollow, or Old Hickory but may have to scout some new turf.

I have run into this a lot. It does come with the territory though. I just don't have any turkey on my private land, so I have to go somewhere else in order to have a chance at one.

Is Dale Hollow TVA land or CoE? It doesn't show up on my map of TVA land

I would totally get my kayak in a lake to spend the hour before sunrise getting a limit of Hybrids and listening for a gobbler to sneak up on. The problem is that if I pulled my yak in the woods to hunt I'd risk someone stealing it or at least stealing my fishing gear. I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving it.

If I did try it and snuck up on a gobbler and saw decoys or could tell by some other indication that there was a hunter already on that bird, I'd do the courteous thing and leave. I'd hope to get the same treatment but you never know on public land.
