Why is it landowners are more adamant about giving permission to Turkey hunt before they would deer hunting? Either I'm a good bull snetter or I've gotten really lucky. Acquired 3 new tracks today. One 270 acre, 428, and the last 850. If I would've asked for deer season they slam the doors in your face pretty much.

Hmm I don't know...maybe deer hunters have earned more of a bad name? Think of the stereotypical deer hunter vs turkey. Also it's an ugly wrinkly headed bird vs "Bambi"

Not sure really.

Far more people deer hunt then turkey hunt. Far more deer hunters have abused land, some of this due to the longer duration of deer hunting, part due to the degenerates that deer hunt.

Try getting turkey permission in Alabama, GA, or Miss, very very tough without showing some cash

Ease into it and don't push the deer hunting part but mention it down the road. I stopped by a place the other day that I used to hunt a little but has now changed owners. Its only 17 acres and the son was home. They don't hunt it and said his parents probably wouldn't want any but stop by later. He and I got to talking turkeys and he wanted to know how to clean one so when I killed one yesterday I stopped by. I cleaned it and gave him the meat. Mom was home and before it was over she said stop again Saturday when my husband is home and maybe y'all can work something out. Fingers crossed.

What Setterman says.....but think of it this way....by getting permission to turkey hunt, gives you a chance to know the landowner...and he gets a chance to know you....and maybe, just maybe, he will ask you out to deer hunt as well. I also predator hunt, which my farmers love....so tends to get me invites.

Bingo.

There is also a much better chance that he actually deer hunts.

Like fool said, you have your foot in the door now. So you are sitting in a very good position to deer hunt it later on.

Oh, one other thing, turkeys aren't as "cute" as deer, so that could be a factor also.
