did everyone read about the huge declines that a lot of states are facing? up to 40 percent in neighboring states to the south and west :o dang sure am glade im in east tn where we still have plenty! hope they figure something out for you southern middle and west tn boys :(

I didn't see near as many during deer season this year as I have before. Hope its not a sign of things to come.

It's been odd the past 2 years. On one property it's going way up and still seeing over 150 birds on it all winter and the other spot that normally is covered was mysteriously down last year. Won't know if it was a fluke till spring but I'm sure hoping that's the case

Its bad here we used to have more turkeys than you can shake a stick at, fall flocks over 100 birds now you won't find a turkey hardly. If you see a flock of 10 you have seen something worth bragging about.

I have seen them declining for several years in a row now. Seen 0 turkeys in Giles County TN since June 6th. This is all southern Giles County, close to AL border.

Been declining 2007-present.

Remember last year, several people on here told us we were crazy and just didn't know how to hunt?? Lol

I remember Rockhound. I'm not very old, but been hunting turkeys my entire life in North AL and South TN. Including Lincoln, Giles, Lawrence, and Wayne. In AL, been hunting Limestone and Lauderdale.

It aint the same don't care what no one says.

There is only one thing that gives me confidnece that everything will be ok.

I talked to a guy that I feel like is in the know, and is friends with TWRA biologist and works for the state himself. He told me that it is a natural population cycle, and it happens everywhere on the continent. His explanation was that everybody in this part of the state got used to seeing the population boom that we had in the mid-late 90s and the early 2000s, and then when the population declines just a little everybody starts freaking out.

This could be just a filler, just keep people from freaking out more, or it could be true. I am in no way a biologist, but just from observations I know that turkeys have gone down hill. And I also remmeber 20 years ago turkeys werent that prominent in my home area.

the natural cycle isn't 40 percent and higher declines! population cycle doesn't void a place completely of natural occurring animals and the reason there wasn't any twenty years ago wasn't natural either they had been over harvested and their enviroments destroyed

I agree 100% I'd say the decline in Lawrence county is closer to 90% maybe more

The thing that puzzles me the most is the distance from good turkey flocks to bad turkey numbers. In Giles and Lawrence counties, north of Highway 64 is pretty good turkey hunting, and south of it is terrible.

My tn places don't even have birds anymore.....used to hold hundreds of birds and had a couple dozen gobbling birds at the end of the season each year. Now I hunt other states besides wasting time chasing ghosts. Thank The Lord for alabama, tx, ks, ne, fl, and ky.

IMO, I think they need to cut back on the fall turkey season. We still got birds around me, but nothing like 10 or so years ago. Ours ain't habitat decline or change, because there isn't really much change around me. Maybe even go to 3 gobblers instead of 4 for spring season.

They have cut back fall seasons in some places. We can only kill 1 either sex and that is including the archery season. I haven't seen one in so long I wouldn't shoot it anyways.
