Not exactly ideal conditions, raining, cool, and the wind blowing. Everybody told us to stay away from the fields and the first thing we do is see a group of birds in a field, of course another truck had already pulled up near there. My thinking is normally with rain the birds will hit fields when it stops to dry off. These are pressured birds but still turkeys. Got a field that's a half mile hike off a ridge to that we got in late to yesterday and saw 2 hens in but saw some large turkey tracks in.

Sounds like my luck there. First time i hunted there i heard a tom gobble next to a field. I was told they would not use field so i spent the next 30 minutes trying to run up-a ridge and around this bird. When i got set up he flew down and gobbled all the way down the middle of that field and right by the spot i first heard him. I hope you have better luck than i do there.

We were told the same thing but the only place we saw any turkeys were in the fields.

I feel your pain. My son was drawn for the youth hunt. Two miserable days of hunting for us. Zero gobbles heard. I was drawn for the first hunt. I found some birds and was able to kill one. It seems to me the breeding activity was late then throw in bad weather makes for a really hard time.

The only bird we got on was in the timber, I didn't ride the roads other than driving between spots but only seen a couple lone hens in fields.
Very silent this year, has me concerned when our group of 4 only heard two different gobblers.
