Both the TN and KY youth hunts are on Nov. 5-6 this year. Although after the first TN gun hunt, it is a better time period than normally held each year. You can't go wrong with an LBL youth hunt. There are over 700 spots and only 200 apply. You will draw a spot.

There are great campgrounds and some nice inexpensive cabin rentals. Horseback riding is likely still available if wanted. Cabins range from 4-8 in size. Firewood available for purchase at campgrounds. Bring your Keurig and a small microwave if wanted. Hot showers and toilets' in the bathhouses.

For both states, youth under 16 do not need the $25 permit. Adult chaperones are not required to have the permit or a license.

Here's a tip for the KY side...youth under age 12 do not require any license for the youth or their adult guide.

I just put my kids in for their last KY side hunt and booked the last cabin at Wrangler. Lots of cabins left at Piney for TN hunt and Energy for KY hunt.

Deadline to apply is end of July.

And, we manage to fit in a horseback ride in mid-day on Saturday or Sunday before leaving. Great trail horses with 45 minute or 90 minute rides for less than $30. Also, there is the elk and bison range...you have to drive through there with the kids too.

I take day off on Friday, pull kids out of school and we get there by noon. Weather permitting, we will be there.

Also, if drawn for the Nov hunt, the youth gets to hunt the Dec 17-18 hunt. A 2 for 1 deal.
Oh, and it is a great time to be out in the fall. Momma and the other kids can come stay in the cabin and explore all the stuff at LBL like planetarium, musem, nature center, etc.

It is a lot less crowded than the Smokies and better for you.

Very interested in putting my son in. He's 11 so I would like to try the KY side for no cost before he ages out. What's LBL like to hunt? Being from the eastern side I've never been to that part of the state.
