LBL Quota Hunt application process is open. I think I have enough points to be selected for a muzzleloader area. Looking for any advice/thoughts on either area 11 or 12. I will probably set up a primitive camp site, normally use my Lone Wolf climber, and not afraid to do a little walking. Thanks in advance.

Most any area will hold deer and the chance for a mature deer is pretty good. You'll need to play the terrain and plan on using the other hunter pressure to your advantage. The Quota hunts are typically pretty busy and you can't exactly depend on natural deer movement.

The biggest issue with the quota hunts is the "scouting" (and stand placements) that occurs the day before the quota hunt begins. This scouting can put more pressure on the deer than the actual hunting.

Most hunters ruin the seemingly good places they select by running the deer out the day before they hunt. Also, much of any visible deer sign such as rubs & scrapes is actually made at night, while the bucks tend to spend much of their days in different locations than their nights.

Most of the hunt compartments are more similar than different, main difference being as to whether the lake is on the east or west side of the compartment. The best area is any one for which you are already very familiar. If that is none, then you have better odds of being drawn by not limiting your choices in the draw.

Some years it seems like more people are out the day before the draw hunt than the actual hunt itself.
