Spike buck just ran across our front yard. Granted, we have a big yard but we're well within city limits with no cover to speak of anywhere close by. Crazy buck was too chicken or tired to jump the fence into the neighbors yard so he dropped down like he was gonna crawl under it. He quickly saw that wasn't going to work so ran down the fence line and was last seen on Mayfair Dr. 😂

Had the umbrella in one hand and the leash in the other, and Moose must've been as surprised as I was because he didn't even bark.
Guess the buck chased a doe nearby but she got away from him somehow? He wasn't cruising with his nose down. Only thing that slowed him down was the fence. Anyhow, this kind of behavior is why I stopped shooting yearling bucks a long time ago. Stupidest thing in the woods…or town.

Sometimes the young bucks come into human territory to escape getting their but beat by bully bucks. Few years back in November we passed a 1 year 4 point standing in a neighbors yard and sometimes in the ditch by the road at all hours of the day off and on for a week or so. The 4 point did not like us in our cars but you could tell he was more terrified by what was in the woods...

Wish I could have gotten permission to hunt the ravine behind the house...

Funny watching deer do this, when you know they have to know they can easily jump a fence.
Only reasonable thing I can think of why he didn't jump it was he was under a huge osage orange just our side of the fence. Maybe he thought he'd hit a limb? Or maybe he decided he didn't want to go to school after all? 😂 The elementary school is right across the street from the neighbors. We've seen a few in the yard before but never one running through like this one.
